With the recent influx of refugee newcomers, The Newcomers Collaborative formed as a coalition of over 50 social service agencies, school districts, and faith based organizations serving East County. Our mission is to embrace, empower with self and others and to provide resources to everyone who is new to the East region. The Newcomers Collaborative works to identify those needs and to directly help our newcomers access the services and programs that are available to them. CSA San Diego County is actively involved in the collaborative and its leadership; our Director Estela De Los Rios acts as the Chair.
On Saturday, November 4th, 2017, The Newcomers Collaborative of El Cajon hosted the first annual Multicultural celebration at EJE Academies. Our first annual Multicultural celebration event was a great success with a large turnout! The Multicultural celebration was family and community oriented with children’s activities, free food, music and public gathering. Our purpose in hosting this event is to honor the diversity of our El Cajon community. We aim to encourage community engagement to help our newcomer families and local residents come together to share on cultural appreciation and love for our local area.
